handmade crafts making quality down time productive

using polymer clay to create jewellery pieces you just want to eat up and wear out

coming home from school as a child on a Monday or Tuesday was the highlight of my entire week for many reasons.

1. got the bus to nonnas which made me feel very grown-up at 7

2. cornetto ice cream cone (my top choice) as a Monday treat

3. obviously nonnas dinner

4. always made it in time for the onslaught of ABC programs that was used as the drawing board for...

5. the stack of scrap paper that would eventually get turned into some wild (almost sturdy) creations

I had what is commonly referred to as an 'active imagination' which led to the usual talking to my many sidekick characters about adventures we were taking and what we needed to prepare for our quest, the answer was always crafty. ladels for cooking expeditions, doll houses for curing boredom, cameras for capturing the moment and telescopes to see the far beyond.

Paper was ultimately my best friend for those few hours a week I would be hard at work on my nonna's living room floor. So when I tell you I'm 22 and still handmaking the essentials, you bet I was preparing for the biggest quest of all, distraction.

My sister is a very accomplished and (dare I say) talented artist, creating canvas' of life-like sceneries, detailed portraits and the most adorable recreations of family puppy photos. Turning her talent into an income was not the hard part of this endeavour, it was ultimately keeping her engaged and eager to grow. then comes the marketing saviour myself, out to keep this venture as exciting and profitable as possible for both of us. turns out I needed a far few distractions to steer my mind away from the horror that was 2021 and the repercussions of what followed.

creating with clay may be a slightly altered process than creating with a heap of paper and sticky tape, but the experience of watching what steady hands could capture in 3-dimensions is a feeling like no other.

polymer clay creations have since become one of my favourite past times over the last few months - dedicating my love for desserts into miniature travelling jewellery pieces. desserts quickly turned to dinners and soon anything that I could see with my own two eyes shrunk to the size of a $1 gold coin.

who knew that getting your heart broken and the rest that would follow would turn into such a productive distraction venture! so much so there's too many to wear now and the side hustle has begun. links below to the business socials and the online store in which you can find some of these adorable creations and make them yours.
